Oh, yes, um… hello there, you handsome bucket bag!
I am so enamored of Bag Five’s curvaceous shape and easy ability to take on a myriad of different attitudes that I could probably just keep making this bag again and again; in my mind’s eye I can see a line of these suckers tromping along the Champs Elysee – marching in time with some kind of Moulin Rouge soundtrack, flipping their cinch tie ends around in the air like bawdy house dancers in the climactic final number…
So I have a bit of an end roll of some upholstery weight zebra print chenille –
It’s done up in a mossy green and taupe-y sort of combination, and I am going to be sad when this fabric is gone. I love it so much that I thought about hoarding it for an upholstery project, but I don’t actually have an upholstery project to work on at the moment, and since I’ve sworn to clear out, not keep stockpiling, it’s unlikely that I’ll do any upholstery this year. Bummer.
This is seriously some of the most restrained fiber art I’ve ever done – the pale maize colored vegan leather is a super subtle contrast with the zebra print, and I think that using the recycled jeans for the side pockets also contributes to keeping a lid on the amount of exuberance this bag brings to the day.
The off the wall grommet where the cinch clasp lives is rescued directly from a drapery set – I used the rest of said drapes to craft a padded backrest for the Murphy bed we built in the Lair, mainly because it was quick and easy but in the end it looks really good with the Mondrian effect paint job on the doors so I’m going to consider that project finished. Chrome hardware rounds out the edgy details, as do the striped silk strap connectors on the sides.
The interior is a wicked cool suzani print in plums and greens and yellows, it’s got a single slip pocket inside, and the two exterior pockets are the perfect size to drop a phone in; the tabs on those pockets are tight enough that your keys won’t fall out even if you flip the bag upside down with them in there — which is great if you have a push button start car! You can still get your fingers into the side pockets to retrieve the keys if you have to actually put them in a lock.
Finished size is 8″ tall, 6.5″ wide, 5″ deep. Retail on this bag is $239.
There will be product photos VERY soon, I promise!
