Lusty Gallant Studio

Hi there, and welcome to Lusty Gallant Studio.

Haha, this is the website that just won’t start giving.  I originally dreamt up the idea of having a nice site to sell my art, WAYYYYYY back in 2019 or so.

I suppose the first thing that would need to happen here is for me to define just what art is to me, what it means, and what sort of things I’m interested in making.  Not likely to happen.  It’s an always moving target that even I can barely hit.

So I’ll just keep on making when I have the time, and post it here and on a few socials and keep on selling it that way for now.  At least until the world slows down enough to have time to do the art and the art website…

I started working on the site, and then along came COVID, and well, let’s just say we all know how that went.  Everyone and their mother and their brother’s cat all needed web work on the ASAP and that was great until the stimulus money ran out.

Then I spent a lot of free time in 2022 working on the actual art, and neglecting the site, and then work got really busy with projects I did with Kim P from Wicked Code – and then in 2023 the vicious cycle started again — just when I thought I was going to get a break to work on the actual art, the entire world decided they needed to get their website action on, or create an instructional video series or something like that, and well, you know how they say that the cobbler’s children have no shoes?

How The Donuts Get Made

Accessories & Art

The goal here is to come forward with some seriously cool items that check all the boxes – the first “rule” of Lusty Gallant is to be sustainable wherever possible.  That means using a vintage 1979 Husqvarna sewing machine (lovingly known as “The Beast” to piece together bag exteriors and some random art that needs a heavy duty hand.  (And I got a vintage Husky serger as well, but there’s not much use in bags for that lol…)  I do have an utterly fabulous BabyLock Brilliant for all of the apparel and quilting, and I’ve joined a local maker space in order to have access to a longarm quilting machine, so who knows what maybe will come of that!?!

That also means using recycled materials – including the real fur that you’ll see as trim – honestly, could grandma be more proud of you for boxing that old coat up and sending it to us for reuse?  I use deadstock for almost everything else, which, if you don’t know the term, is the leftover materials that furniture manufacturers, clothiers, and the like are no longer using but need to get rid of from their warehouses.

Repurposing is almost an obsession for me.  If you look through my studio cabinets and bins, you would think I’m living through the Great Depression, based on the number and amount of weird pieces of packaging and old containers and stuff that I have secreted away for a rainy day.

I try to use recycled paper anywhere possible, and our printers are water based dye ink and VOC-free toner. If that’s not enough, I’m now pulling my own paper using recycled sh*t that makes it way into our mailbox, along with all the nonsense that gets printed in the office in the next room over.  Might as well reuse it instead of putting it in the recycle bin so they can lie and say they’ve actually recycled it, no?

I also scour the resale and thrift shops, looking for existing product that I can tear down and either remake or re-use various parts like hardware and fasteners.  If you are thinking that I’m literally one step away from being some kind of hoarder, well, yeah.  That’s right.

How Do I Buy From You?

Oh yeah, that.  As much as I’d love to keep every single piece that I’ve ever made – even the ones that didn’t really turn out the way I planned – I have to send these guys to happy new homes where they can be loved and taken out on the town to show off.

Send me a message using the “I WANT THAT” form on the product page and I will invoice you for the item; once the payment clears I ship directly to your doorstep (at my expense on all but the largest of art pieces).

I know it’s a bit more of a PIA than just clicking an Add to Cart button and entering your details – and I’m going to put some of the smaller or more reasonably shippable items into online ordering (unless some other plague happens and I get sidetracked again) – but the stuff that requires special packaging will still be request only.  I also sell stuff at shows and galleries so I hate having to deal with syncing inventory across platforms, since I usually only have one of something, and inventory control programs are not meant for one-offs, they are meant for many of one type deals.

What the heck is a Lusty Gallant?

In case you’re wondering, let me enlighten you –

noun  The name of an old dance and probably of a popular ballad in the sixteenth century.  Lusty gallant was originally the name of a dance popular in Tudor England, but somehow, in the late 1500s its name became attached to a pale shade of red, similar to coral pink.

I love the name – and the color!

LustyGallant.com is haphazardly powered by Kim Stuart Digital.

So if you’re in the market for a new website, a refresh of your current site, some killer SEO work, or anything along those lines, drop me a note at my biz site please, and I’ll for sure drop whatever soul fulfilling, flow inducing, piece of kit that I’m fiddling with to make sure your website (landing page, SEO optimization, video editing, graphic design project) moves right to the top of my procrastination list – you know, the one that has every other thing you’ll do before actually making the art or selling the art, since those things require a commitment and an attention to detail, a focus on not putting yet another WIP into the drawer.

Keep in Touch
