Revolution Is Not a Spectator Sport
Protest has always been a catalyst for artistic expression. From public dissent to personal resistance, protest art gives voice to injustice, demands change, and documents moments of social reckoning.
Protest: The Art of Activism is a group exhibition centered on the urgent needโnot just the desireโto resist systems, policies, and power structures that cause harm. This show exists in direct response to what is happening in America and other places around the world, as people take to the streets to defend bodily autonomy, human rights, immigrant lives, queer and trans existence, racial justice, and collective freedom.
Protest – The Art of Activism
Opening Reception | March 21 Letโs be honestโgiven the moment weโre living in, this is not a show to sit out. Protest โ The Art of Activism brings together artists using their work to confront the political reality shaping life in America right now. This exhibition centers art made in response to power, injustice, and the growing wave of resistance pushing back.
Throughout the gallery, protest signs created and carried by community members will hang from the ceilingโreminders that activism doesnโt live only in galleries. It lives in the streets, in marches, and in the hands of people demanding better. As a woman-owned, queer-owned nonprofit gallery, Not Shockboxx believes spaces like this should do more than observe the momentโthey should engage with it. Join us for an opening night that brings artists, activists, and community together. Revolution is not a spectator sport.
More about Not Shockboxx (from me!) –
Not Shockboxx is a woman owned gallery in Hermosa Beach CA – Jessica Accamando and Carin Ohara have an amazing presence in the LA beach community of Hermosa Beach, CA.ย Jessica is incredibly passionate about art, about standing up for what she believes in, and about giving the community a chance to experience some amazing art.ย ย I met her in person at the opening reception and am just blown away by her spirit and her charm, and I can’t wait to submit more work to other exhibits in the future!
